Marguerite Gong Hancock

Associate Director of Stanford Program on Regions of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SPRIE), Stanford Graduate School of Business

Marguerite Gong Hancock is the Associate Director of the Stanford Program on Regions of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SPRIE), an interdisciplinary and international research program at the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University. Educated at Harvard University, Brigham Young University, and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Hancock joined Stanford in 1987. She leads SPRIE research initiatives, conferences, and publications on topics ranging from “China 2.0” to “Smart Green Cities” to “The Next Silicon Valley.” Hancock has served as an advisor or lecturer to policy makers and executives from Beijing to Barcelona, Silicon Valley to Singapore. She has lectured for Harvard University, Tsinghua University, IESE, and others; she has delivered keynotes or conference addresses in more than a dozen countries.
Hancock is co-editor of three books published by Stanford: The Silicon Valley Edge (2000), Making IT: Asia’s Rise in High Tech (2006), and Greater China’s Quest for Innovation (2008). Currently, she is co-authoring a book on the drivers and global implications of the rise of China’s internet industry. Passionate about education, Hancock mentors students and serves as a member of the Stanford Entrepreneurship Network. She also teaches in executive education courses and co-directs an education program for international policy makers at Stanford, “Leading Innovative and Entrepreneurial Regions in the Global Economy.”

William F. Miller

Faculty Co-Director of Stanford Program on Regions of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SPRIE) & Herbert Hoover Professor of Public and Private Management Emeritus, Stanford Graduate School of Business; Professor of Computer Science Emeritus and Former Provost, Stanford University

Dr. William F. Miller has spent about half of his professional life in business and about half in academia. He was the last faculty member recruited to Stanford University by the legendary Frederick Terman, who was then Vice President and Provost of Stanford. Miller himself later became Vice President and Provost of Stanford. He conducted research and directed many graduate students in Computer Science.

He was the last faculty member recruited to Stanford University by the legendary Frederick Terman who was then Vice President and Provost of Stanford. Miller, himself, later became Vice President and Provost of Stanford (1971-1979). He conducted research and directed many graduate students in Computer Science. Prior to Stanford he was Director of the Applied Mathematics Division at the Argonne National Laboratory.
In 1968 Dr. Miller also played a role in the founding of the first Mayfield Fund (venture capital) as a special limited partner and advisor to the general partners. He became the Herbert Hoover Professor of Public and Private Management in the Stanford Graduate School of Business in 1979.
As President and CEO of SRI International (1979-1990) Miller opened SRI to the Pacific Region, he established the spin-out and commercialization program at SRI and established the David Sarnoff Research Center (now the Sarnoff Corporation) as a for-profit subsidiary of SRI. He became the Chairman and CEO. In 1982 Miller was appointed to the National Science Board .He has served on the board of directors of several major companies such as Signetics, Firemans Fund Insurance, Wells Fargo Bank, Pacific Gas and Electric Company, Varian Associates, WhoWhere? Inc. (Chairman), and Borland Software Corp. (Chairman). He co-founded SmartValley,Inc. and helped create CommerceNet and serves on the board of directors. Dr. Miller was a founding director of the Center for Excellence in Non-profits. He currently is a Founder /Chairman of Nanostellar Inc., and Founder/Chairman of Lumiette, Inc..

Dr. Miller is a Life Member of the National Academy of Engineering, Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Science, Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Life Fellow of IEEE, Okawa Prize 2000(Japan), DongBaeg Medal from Republic of Korea 2000,and Member of the Silicon Valley Engineering Hall of Fame 2001, David Packard Civic Entrepreneur Award 2008, New Silk Road Award from the California Business Council 2008. Konkuk University, Seoul Korea, established the William F. Miller School of Management of Technology on March 3, 2009. Miller becomes Honorary Dean.

Miller received the BS(1949), MS(1951), PhD (1956) and Honorary DSc (1972) from Purdue University.

Dr. Miller works with cheetahs in the wild in Namibia at the Cheetah Conservation Fund Namibia, and is on the Board of Advisors of the Wildlife Conservation Network.

Stephen Su

General Director of Industrial Economics & Knowledge Center (IEK) in Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI)

Stephen Su is the General Director of Industrial Economics & Knowledge Center (IEK) in Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI). Prior to that, he was a Principal in Roland Berger Strategy Consultants based in Shanghai. From 2000-2008 he was a Senior Director of Consumer Electronics in Primax Electronics Ltd. based in Taipei. From 1994-1998 he served as a Project Leader in Boston Consulting Group (BCG) Hong Kong. From 1992-1994 he was a Applications Engineer in the Semiconductor Group of Motorola Phoenix. Stephen has both industry and business consulting experiences for 20 years. His professional specialties include Strategy, Performance Improvement, Changing of Organization, Business Process Redesign, and Marketing. Stephen received BSc in Electronic/Computer Engineering from UC Berkeley, MSc in Electronics from California Institute of Technology, and MBA from Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

Gordon Feller

Director, Urban Innovation
Cisco Systems Inc

Gordon Feller is Director of Urban Innovations at Cisco Systems. He works with innovative leaders who are making their cities more connected and more sustainable. Among his various duties, Gordon leads initiatives designed to support urban development initiatives underway within North American and EU-based cities. In addition, Gordon supports Cisco’s numerous China urban initiatives – including through his role as leader of Cisco’s City Leader Program, which provides intensive learning programs to Chinese mayors, Communist Party secretaries and national government ministers. Prior to joining Cisco, Feller was CEO of Urban Age, an international institute fostering leadership and innovation within and between cities. Urban Age focuses on the needs of city leaders in strategic planning, innovative public policy, sustainable development and dynamic economic development. For nearly 30 years Gordon has advised the elected and appointed leaders of cities and states, heads of corporations, NGOs, foundations, national government agencies. His clients have included the national governments of Canada and Germany, IBM, Metropolis, Reuters, The World Bank, The United Nations and Chevron. Grants made by a long list of philanthropies, including Lincoln Institute and Rockefeller Foundation, enabled his projects to flourish in numerous countries. Gordon received both his undergraduate degree and his Masters from Columbia University in New York City, where he graduated cum laude with several honors and several fellowships.

Eric Wang

Managing Partner, GVT FUND

Dr. Eric Wang is an experienced private equity/ venture capital (PE/VC) fund manager with track record in Silicon Valley, Taiwan and China. He is currently a Managing Partner at GVT Fund, a Greater China based venture capital fund focusing on private companies with competitive advantages from innovative technology and/or business model.
Previously, Dr. Wang was a Managing Director at WK Technology Fund, one of the largest Taiwanese PE/VC funds. During his tenure, Dr. Wang led his team making investments in the high-tech sectors in Silicon Valley, USA., Taiwan and China; and in particular, he had successfully cultivated start-up companies in Silicon Valley from early stage and brought them to IPO or acquisition by public companies, achieving liquidity for the investors.
Prior to joining WK, Dr. Wang was the Global Head of Semiconductor Research at ABN AMRO Bank; and during that time, he and his team were highly ranked by institutional investor surveys including Reuters, Institutional Investors, Asia Money and Asset.
Earlier, while a graduate student at Stanford University, he worked as a yield management engineer for KLA-Tencor (KLAC) providing services to semiconductor giants such as Intel, TI, Samsung and TSMC.
Dr. Wang is a Ph.D. in Engineering-Economic Systems and Operations Research from Stanford University, and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan.
In addition to being a professional private equity/venture capital fund manager, Dr. Wang teaches the executive programs at Stanford University, and is a frequent speaker at international conferences.

Dennis Lee

Senior Advisor to CEO , Aleees

Dennis Lee is the senior advisor to CEO of Aleees, a company operates in green energy sector with innovative battery cathode material and fully integrated battery-swapping electrical bus. He is responsible to facilitate the international joint projects with renowned research institutes and leading technology providers around the globe. His latest effort on cooperation with Canada, US, France and German universities and companies lands Aleees access to global patent pool of battery material technologies and further extends the material market presence for Aleees.
Prior to the business development work, Dennis raised multi-million-dollar capital from China, US and Israel venture capital fund in order for Aleees to expand into electrical bus business. In addition, he also completed several strategic investments into startups with key technologies that support Aleees future growth.
After received his master degree from Carnegie Mellon University, Dennis worked as an engineer for IBM middleware group. At the same time, he started his study in business with University of Pittsburgh and earned his MBA while working in CISCO storage area network group in Silicon Valley.

Mo-Hua Yang


President of TD Hitech

Dr. Yang currently is President of TD HiTech Energy Inc. The company is a spin-off company from Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), Taiwan. Dr. Yang has worked in ITRI from 1997 to 2008. He has been the Deputy Director of the Energy Storage Materials and Technology Division and the Manager of the EV Battery Development Project at Materials and Chemicals Research Laboratories, ITRI.
Dr. Yang has over 10 years’ experience in EV battery developing, specializing in Li-ion battery. He have been a project manager for Li-ion battery development in LEV and HEV application as well as the LEV promotion project in Taiwan, those projects were supported by Taiwan government. He has more than 120 publications, 7 patents and more than 50 conferences presentations in the field of Li-ion battery technology and EV applications.

TD HiTech Energy is an energy storage system design company. They design an appropriate battery management system which including cell protection control algorism, cell balancing, precision SOC indication, thermal management and digital communication protocol for EV and energy storage system applications. The current battery pack businesses are focus on E-bike and E-scooter application markets.

Kurt Chen

Director of Sales / Marketing, Earthgen Materials Corp.

Mr. Kurt Chen is an experienced strategy consultant / financial advisor in both in Taiwan and China. Mr. Chen is currently the Director of Sales /Marketing of Earthgen Materials Corp., Board Member of Everglory Holdings, and Investment Consultant of Evergreen Marine Group.

Previously, Mr. Chen was the Director of Corporate Solution of Lehman Brothers / Nomura. He provided service and solutions in special situation financing, structuring financing and equity financing for companies in greater China region. Before Lehman Brothers/Nomura, Mr. Chen served as a trader of illiquid credit in Deutche Bank.

Mr. Chen is MBA of London Business School and B.S of Hydraulic Engineering from National Chung Hsing University. During his study in London, he helped a small internet mapping company – Walkit to turn around. The case had been awarded “Booz Allen Hamilton case completion award 2005”. He also serves as board member of overseas alumni association of London Business School.

Herb Lin, President

President, Industrial Technology Investment Corporation (ITIC)

Mr. Lin, the current president of ITIC, has extensive experience in venture capital and in high-tech industry. He worked for Intel Corp. for over 12 years at its USA headquarters, China office and Taipei office with responsibilities in design and application engineering, working on processor design and validation as well as manufacturing yield issues, and later heading the product and technical marketing team for the Asia-Pacific region, defining regional marketing strategies, identifying partners for technology transfers, and analyzing market and product trends.

In 2000, he joined Intel’s strategic investment arm, Intel Capital, in China, where he defined investment strategies in China and Taiwan, identified companies with needed technologies or synergies with Intel as investment targets, developed deal structures, negotiated investment contracts, worked with portfolio companies at board level, and managed equity dispositions.
In 2003, Mr. Lin moved to a US-based VC and private equity fund, Crimson Capital Holdings, as senior vice president, to head the Taipei team responsible for the fund’s Asian portfolio. He later became senior vice president at a US/Taiwan joint venture VC company, TCW Asiavest Partners, and a leading Taiwan-based VC firm, WK Technology, where he defined investment strategies, raised funds from overseas investors, sourced investment targets in Taiwan and China, performed analysis and due diligence, developed investment structures, negotiated investment contracts, worked with portfolio companies at board level, and managed equity disposition.
Mr. Lin graduated from National Taiwan University in Bio-industrial Mechatronic Engineering, then pursued graduate studies in the USA. He received an MS degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Missouri, and was a PhD candidate in Electrical Engineering in Santa Clara University.
